Accommodation

Accommodation is selected only after dates and priorities are clear. The confirmed proposal identifies each property, room basis and any known limitations before a booking is accepted.

Meals

Breakfast is normally included at hotels. Lunches and dinners are built around the route, dietary needs and realistic local options; the personalised quotation states exactly which meals are included.

Fitness & preparation

Remote heat, basic camps, long transfers and limited services require resilience. Participation remains subject to a health discussion, current conditions and the expedition leader's judgement.

Cultural guidance

Your guide will explain local expectations at each stop. Ask before photographing people, respect worship and working spaces, and allow hosts to set the pace of any encounter.

Responsible travel

The confirmed route should identify its guides, local operators and applicable site, community or conservation fees. Wildlife must never be baited or guaranteed, and hosts remain free to decline a planned visit.

Safety & operations

This is a conditional expedition. Extreme heat, volcanic conditions, regional restrictions and security advice can change or cancel access with little notice. No lava, route or departure is guaranteed; final operation requires Afar partner approval and current official guidance.

Included in the quotation

  • Ground transport and listed internal transport exactly as confirmed
  • Guiding and local specialist services listed in the confirmed proposal
  • Accommodation and meals exactly as itemised in the personalised quotation
  • Site admissions, park arrangements and community fees listed in the final programme
  • Planning and operational support described in the confirmed proposal

Not included

  • International flights, visas and travel insurance
  • Meals, drinks and activities not identified as included

  • Medical costs, evacuation and changes caused by events outside the operator's control

  • Additional guided walks where conditions and energy allow
  • An extra rest night at the beginning or end

Possible extensions

  • A private Addis Ababa extension
